Overpopulation is having a 'catastrophic effect' on the natural world, warns Prince William

  • Prince William has warned that overpopulation had put wildlife "under enormous pressure."
  • The Duke was speaking at a gala hosted by wildlife charity the Tusk Trust.
  • He is expecting his third child next year.

The world's rapidly expanding population is ruining the natural environment, Prince William has warned.

Speaking at a gala hosted by the Tusk Trust on Thursday, the Duke of Cambridge said there was "no question" overpopulation had "put wildlife and habitat under enormous pressure."

The Tusk Trust is a charity that works to protect African wildlife, where William is patron.

He told an audience at The Roundhouse in London:

"In my lifetime we have seen global wildlife populations decline by over half. Africa's rapidly growing human population is predicted to more than double by 2050 — a staggering increase of three and a half million people per month. There is no question that this increase puts wildlife and habitat under enormous pressure.

"Urbanisation, infrastructure development, cultivation — all good things in themselves, but they will have a terrible impact unless we begin to plan and to take measures now.

"On human populations alone, over-grazing and poor water supplies could have a catastrophic effect unless we start to think about how to mitigate these challenges.

"We are going to have to work much harder, and think much deeper, if we are to ensure that human beings and the other species of animal with which we share this planet can continue to co-exist."

The Duke also praised global efforts to restrict ivory sales and animal poaching. The UK government announced it would ban almost all of the ivory trade earlier this month.

Prince William is father to four-year-old George and two-year-old Charlotte. He and his wife, Kate Middleton, are expecting a third child in April.

His remarks echoed those of his grandfather Prince Philip, a father of four, who previously said there were "just too many people to feed" due to overpopulation, and advocated "voluntary family limitation" to tackle the problem.

  • Prince William, dressed in a suit, posed with a near-naked Beale — complete with a beer in hand.
  • Beale ran the length of the pitch to score a dazzling try during the match.

Australia rugby union star Kurtley Beale's photograph with Prince William had all the makings of a viral hit.

Swigging beer in the tiniest of shorts, he posed next the Duke of Cambridge, who had donned his Saturday best.

Beale's caption, which gently mocked William, said it all: "When you rock up to the party feeling a little overdressed."

Beale played a key part in Australia's 29-21 victory over Wales at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday, running the length of the pitch to score the try that sealed the win for the Wallabies.

Australia is next in action on November 19 when it takes on England at Twickenham in London.

The INSIDER Summary:

  • During an interview with BBC Radio 4, John Boyega confirmed Prince William and Prince Harry filmed cameos for the next "Star Wars" movie.
  • According to Boyega, the two play Stormtroopers in "The Last Jedi."
  • Boyega said he's "had enough with those secrets" and that they came on set.
  • The two were photographed visiting the set in April 2016 where they checked out props and played with lightsabers.
  • Boyega's not sure if their cameo will make it into the final film.

Prince William and his brother Harry did more than just play with lightsabers when they dropped by the set of the next "Star Wars" movie in April 2016.

According to "The Last Jedi" actor John Boyega, the royal brothers also filmed cameos for the film.

"I've had enough with those secrets," Boyega told BBC Radio 4 Friday morning when he was asked if the two gave any lines in the upcoming movie. "They came on set. They were there. I'm sick of hiding it. It think it was leaked, anyway."

The Daily Mail previously reported the rumored scene includes Rey and Finn infiltrating a base. Harry and William's Stormtroopers are supposed to be seen riding inside an elevator with Benicio del Toro's new character.

In August, Boyega warned their scene may not have made the final cut. But according to a new article in The Hollywood Reporter, the two will appear alongside singer Gary Barlow and Tom Hardy as Stormtroopers guarding Boyega's character Finn.

  • British actor John Boyega confirmed he shares a scene with the pair "in stormtrooper costumes."

Princes William and Harry will appear in cameo roles as stormtroopers in the upcoming Star Wars film, it has been revealed.

The royals visited the set of The Last Jedi in April 2016 but producers kept details of the brothers' visit to Pinewood Studios under wraps.

British actor John Boyega, who plays former stormtrooper Finn, has confirmed he shared a scene with the pair "in stormtrooper costumes" in an interview.

He told the Hollywood Reporter he had a "great experience" shooting the scene with the royals, saying it made for "a strange contrast of a weird family" with the characters in the film.

The leading man also suggested Tom Hardy would appear in a similarly understated role, also with his face obscured by a stormtrooper mask.

Mr Boyega had previously said "no comment" when asked for details of William and Harry's visit.

Earlier this year, Take That singer Gary Barlow also revealed he had a small part in Stars Wars: The Last Jedi, due for release in December.

The Standard has approached Disney, the owner of the franchise, for comment.

19 regular people who married into royalty

Turns out that Cinderella doesn't need a ball to meet her prince — she could find him in a bar.

At least, that's how Mary Elizabeth Donaldson, who's now the crown princess of Denmark, found her prince.

And then there's Kate Middleton. Her 2011 wedding to Prince William captivated millions of people around the globe. The two of them met in college.

Now, actress Meghan Markle will soon join the royal ranks when she marries Prince Harry in the spring of 2018.

We've rounded up 19 commoners who married into royal families — and an explainer for why Princess Diana isn't one of them:

Grace Kelly — Princess of Monaco

Grace Kelly began her acting career in 1950, but retired in 1956 to marry Rainier III, the prince of Monaco. They had met during a photo shoot at the Cannes Film Festival in 1955, one she almost skipped. The couple had three children.

She suffered a minor stroke while driving and was killed in 1982 when the car went over the edge of a 45-foot embankment.

Charlene Wittstock — Princess of Monaco

Charlene is a former South African Olympic swimmer. She met Prince Albert II, Grace Kelly's son, during a swimming meet in Monaco in 2000. The couple went public in 2006, at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, and married in July 2011. Wittstock gave birth to fraternal twins in 2014.

Kate Middleton — Duchess of Cambridge

Kate was studying art history at the University of St Andrews when she met Prince William in 2001. After dating on and off for numerous years, the couple married on April 29, 2011, and millions of people around the world tuned in to watch the ceremony. They have two children: Prince George, born in July 2013, and Princess Charlotte, born in May 2015.

Here’s why it would break royal protocol if Prince William became Prince Harry’s best man

$

  • Prince Harry was Prince William's best man at his wedding.
  • Technically, a royal wedding can't have a best man, only "supporters."
  • Prince William broke royal protocol to make Prince Harry his best man, so it's likely that Prince Harry will do the same when he marries Meghan Markle.

British royal weddings technically don't include a best man in the proceedings. But that hasn't stopped royals from breaking protocol and giving someone the honorary title, anyway.

Marlene Koenig, a British and European royalty expert, told Town & Country that there's no such thing as a best man in royal weddings — only "supporters."

Still, Prince William broke royal protocol when he made Prince Harry his best man in his 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton.

While Kensington Palace has yet to confirm any details about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding party, it seems likely that he'll return the favor. An unnamed source told US Weekly that “Harry has several close guy friends, but there’s no way he would ask anyone but William to take on the top job.”

What we do know is that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will wed in spring 2018 at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. It remains to be seen if Prince William or his children, Prince George or Princess Charlotte, will have an official role in the ceremony.

The whole nation goes into overdrive as soon as a royal wedding is announced.

The hysteria was so extreme in the build-up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement that one Norfolk-based company had thousands of mugs and tea towels emblazoned with the couple's faces ready to sell before the engagement was even definite.

Business Insider has compiled the one most iconic photo or painting from 26 of the 33 recorded royal weddings throughout modern British history.

Scroll on to see the royal weddings, in order from oldest to most recent, that have warmed the hearts of the British public throughout modern history — and to see how much fashion has changed since King George IV married Caroline of Brunswick back in 1795.

April 8, 1795: Prince George (to be King George IV) married Princess Caroline at Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.

The first cousins' marriage was not illegal at the time because the dangers inflicted on an incestuous couple's offspring weren't fully understood.

February 10, 1840: Queen Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha at St James's Palace.

The Queen's white dress was unusual at the time. It was more fashionable for brides to wear colourful dresses — especially gold. In the 19th century, a white wedding dress was actually a symbol of wealth rather than purity.

January 25, 1858: Princess Victoria (daughter of Queen Victoria) married Prince Frederick of Prussia at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.

The people of London filled the streets trying to get a glimpse of the Princess Royal on the way to St James's Palace. Princess Victoria's procession included 18 carriages, over 300 soldiers, and 220 horses, according to historian Hannah Pakula.

Prince William and Kate Middleton broke from royal tradition with a rare public display of affection — and it might have been inspired by Meghan Markle

Kate Prince William

  • Kate Middleton and Prince William had a rare public display of affection recently.
  • The couple is known for maintaining a stoic public image.
  • However, Meghan Markle's and Price Harry's more informal attitude may be leading to changes in how the royal couples publicly conduct themselves.

Prince William and Kate Middleton broke from tradition with a rare public display of affection.

While being awarded gold Blue Peter badges for campaigning on children's mental health issues, Kate put on what the Daily Mail called a "rare tactile display." It was just a simple knee touch, but it was enough to raise eyebrows for fans of Will and Kate.

People reported in 2016 that the royal couple "often keeps a stoic, very British decorum."

Part of that is due to the fact that often, when the couple is being photographed, they're at public events or representing the British Monarchy in an official capacity. Typically, the couple's semi-standoffish behavior extends to interviews.

Meghan Markle Prince Harry

But, that could be changing. One of the most talked-about moments from the announcement of Prince Harry's engagement to the American actress Meghan Markle was when the couple was shown cuddling with intertwined hands, joking around before their microphones were turned on.

People embraced the informal attitude and celebrated the goofy romance between the newly engaged couple.

For Kate Middleton, who has long been extremely polished in her fashion and public presentation, Meghan Markle's more laid-back approach could allow for a change. Markle's engagement provides Middleton with a chance to be more informal in public — and it could encourage her to reevaluate her own self-presentation as her future sister-in-law begins to dominate headlines.

The £14,000-a-year preschool Princess Charlotte will attend next year is run solely by women and focuses on 'good manners'

Princess Charlotte

  • Princess Charlotte will attend Willcocks Nursery School in Kensington from January.
  • It costs £14,000 a year to attend.
  • Prince William and Kate will attend a "settling in" period.
  • The nursery is run solely by females and follows the statutory curriculum.
  • It is also well placed for her to follow Prince George to his current school.

Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced that they are to send their daughter, Princess Charlotte, to Willcocks Nursery School in Kensington.

The two-year-old will start in January following the Christmasholidays and a spokesperson for Willcocks says the nursery is "delighted" by their latest recruit.

No doubt this announcement will make Willcocks's waiting list go through the roof. When it was revealed Prince George would be attending a Montessori nursery - the director of the institute reportedly said that phones began ringing off the hook.

But, what does life look like for Charlotte in the New Year? Here's everything you need to know about the little royal's new nursery:

You have to pay a registration fee and a deposit for attending

Yes, parents can actually register their children from the moment they're born for a fee of £125. If they're offered a place, they must then put down a deposit of £1,500 which is only returned at the end of the child's final term if a term's notice has been given in writing.

It costs £14,500 a year to go

Parents of children attending the preschool will be charged £3,050 a term for mornings and £1,800 for afternoons, totalling £14,500 if children attend both sessions over three terms.

If Charlotte wants to attend lunch club that'll be added to the bill too. £580.00 per term for one afternoon per week, £1160 per term for two afternoons per week or £1740 per term for all three afternoons during the week.

Kate and Wills will attend a "settling in" period

The royal couple will partake in the nursery "stay and play" programme to help Charlotte settle in.

They'll be asked to attend nursery and once Charlotte looks settled, they'll be asked to leave for a short period to see if she's happy to be left. This process is done with the idea that as Charlotte becomes more relaxed in the environment, she'll eventually be happy to attend completely on her own.

The nursery recommends that parents equip their child with "a toy or photograph from home or a picture of their Key Teacher to take home" so that the link between nursery and home becomes more familiar and the whole process is sped up.

Charlotte's favourite toys and games will already be waiting for her

Kate and Wills will have to fill in various forms before Charlotte's arrival at The Willcocks Nursery including an "All About Me" questionnaire regarding their 2-year-old. This is to "aid transition prior to [their] child starting so that [the nursery] can have [their] child's favourite toys and equipment ready for their arrival." Lucky Charlotte.

She could take French lessons

The structure of the nursery is split in three and it's definitely ambitious in parts. The morning school accommodates 32 children aged between two and five-years-old and the itinerary is designed to initiate the first stages of learning for a child - reading, writing and understanding numbers.

The lunch club "is for children that are ready for a longer learning session and for older children to prepare them for big school". Toys and games are organised but the likes of French lessons and music classes are also available.

The afternoon session is the one Charlotte is most likely to attend at first. It's for children aged two to three and centres around predicable, nursery school activities like games, art and outdoor playtime.

It's run solely by females

The nursery is owned and run by the Headmistress, Lavinia Taylor, and her fellow teachers, Louise Ward, Sarah Walker, Rosa Rego Dias and Jennifer Robbins. Their mission is to maintain "a traditional nursery school" which aims for high standards, excellence and good manners.

It follows the statutory curriculum

The nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage - a curriculum set by the government for children between birth and five years old.

There are certain themes of the curriculum that Charlotte will follow.

The "prime areas" are: personal social and emotional development, physical development, communication and language which aim to help develop literacy and mathematics skills, an ability to understand the world and express herself through arts and design.

Charlotte's progress will be monitored

The teachers do keep progress reports of each child and discuss their developments with parents regularly. No misbehaving will go unnoticed.

It's a popular place to start children who might end up at Prince George's school

On the nursery's website, it recommends a list of schools after the children have finished nursery. Some of the most expensive in the UK, it features the school Prince George currently attends, Thomas's Battersea, alongside the likes of £20,000-a-year-plus Eaton Square School and Garden House.

It's already got Tatler's approval

Of course it does.

The magazine gave it a glowing review in 2015, stating: "We know describing a good school in Kensington as a 'hidden gem' is an oxymoron, but the Willcocks Nursery is just that.

"It has a loyal following - a mix of old English families and chic foreigners - but flies under the radar. It's all quite understated.

"Yes, you should register at birth and yes, there are waiting lists, but fab head Lavinia Taylor says: ‘We try our best not to disappoint'. A mother describes it as 'gentle, which is what you want for young ones'.

"They're just by the Royal Albert Hall, so expect jaunts to the museums and the park, as well as captivating talks on things like Shackleton, archaeology or the environment to keep things lively and fun.

"Kindness is evident everywhere, plus the nursery is a cooperative, so you know staff are in it for the long haul.'"

Shackleton for a two-year-old, eh? Interesting.

Royal Family Trooping the Colour 2017

This year has been a huge one in the royal calendar — there has been a pregnancy, a proposal, Prince Philip leaving full-time royal duties, Prince William taking them on, and foreign trips and state visits galore.

For people constantly in the public eye, the royals are unsurprisingly great at shaking the right hands, smiling at the right moments, and generally keeping it all together to make sure they get things done.

But every now and again, even watching from a distance, we get a bit more than that. Away from the setpiece events, these are photos of the royals laughing, gawping, eye-rolling, and generally acting like normal folk. Here are the best from 2017.

In January Prince William made a solo venture to Centre Point, a homelessness charity in London. Here he plays a game with a young woman being helped by the charity (he has to guess the name on the note — which says "David Beckham").

It's not all relaxed though — here's all three royals making a run for it at a sports event in east London in February.

Prince William had more fun and games trying to put up a tent blindfolded in Abergevenny, Wales, while launching a children's award scheme.

Previous generations of princes did not bring their fiancées with them to Sandringham until after they were married, but that precedent was broken this year with Markle's arrival.

There's a theory for why Prince William always holds George's hand in public while Kate looks after Charlotte — and experts on royals say it could be true

  • In public appearances, Prince William is nearly always seen holding Prince George's hand, while Kate looks after Princess Charlotte.
  • An expert on parenting told the Daily Mail she thinks it's to prepare George to become king.
  • Business Insider put her theory to experts on royals to see what they had to say.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are some of the most down-to-earth royals — yet in some ways, they appear firmly traditional.

Ever wondered why in photos Prince William is always holding George's hand, while Kate holds Princess Charlotte? Jasmine Peters, an expert on relationships, thinks it's all part of preparing George to become king.

kate will

"Fathers are typically responsible for the disciplinary actions, redirection, protection, and provision of the family,"she told the Daily Mail.

"It is not uncommon to see a father with his son to set the foundation of what his role and responsibilities will be in life with a family," she said. "It is often believed that it takes a man to raise a boy to be a man. If you look at the pictures it clearly reflects this common belief."

Describing the duke and duchess as "instinctive" parents, Peters continued: "Yes, it could reflect that Kate and William are traditional, but it also reflects the importance of the bond created between father and son and mother and daughter that they both treasure and hold dearly as responsible and loving parents."

"Children often equate their worth to the parent that looks like them," she added.

To test Peters' theory, Business Insider spoke to two royal commentators.

"Every parent raises their child in his or her way," Robert Jobson, an expert on royals who wrote the best-seller "Diana: Closely Guarded Secret," told Business Insider. "It usually comes down to the relationship between the individual child and parent as to who takes the lead in a particular relationship. But in William and George's case, it may be different."

Jobson added: "William, after all, is the only person — apart from the queen and Prince Charles — on the planet who knows what it's like to be the direct heir in line to the British throne, and only he knows what is expected of him. Therefore, perhaps it makes sense he takes the lead in that particular relationship when in public."

As you delve back into the photo archive, you can see a pattern emerging.

William was also the parent to take George to his first day at the Thomas's Battersea co-ed prep school, which costs £6,000 ($8,100) a term, in London in September.

GettyImages 843616664

William Hanson, a British manners and etiquette coach who often comments on royal protocol, told Business Insider: "Whether the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have knowingly chosen to look after their children in public in this way is unknown, but it is certainly a nice, subtle nod to the lineage and line of succession that is key to the British royal family."

Meghan Markle's whirlwind romance is the opposite of Kate Middleton's 10-year courtship — and it shows how different their marriages will be

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle

It's hard not to compare Meghan Markle— Prince Harry's new fianceé — to Prince William's wife Kate Middleton.

At least on the surface, the two royal courtships couldn't appear more different. Most notably, Markle and Prince Harry met in 2016, when they were both in their 30s. Just about a year later, they announced their engagement.

Middleton and Prince William, on the other hand, met in college. They didn't get engaged until 2010, five years after they graduated.

What's more, while Middleton is British, Prince Harry broke with tradition in some ways by choosing to spend his life with an American.

We asked two relationship experts to explain what these differences might mean for the two marriages, and for the two women's lives. Andrea Syrtash is the author of "He's Just Not Your Type (And That's a Good Thing): How to Find Love Where You Least Expect It" and the founder of Pregnantish.com. Rachel Sussman is a relationship therapist in New York City.

There's no saying what will transpire over the course of either relationship. But as Sussman said, "When you're aware of potential pitfalls, you can really work on the relationship and try to make sure that those don't happen."

SEE ALSO: Meghan Markle has proved her dominance over the 'Kate effect' — and it's worth $677 million

Prince William and Middleton have built a life together, having known each other since college. 'What's wonderful is that they have a history,' Syrtash said.

'They know so much about each other,' Sussman said of couples who met when they were young. 'They have a lot of the same friends. They have shared cultural references and memories.'

Prince Harry and Markle, on the other hand, met in their 30s, meaning they brought more wisdom and self-knowledge to their relationship. In fact, Markle has been married before.

  • The royal cousins keep up-to-date with one another through a WhatsApp group chat.
  • That's according to Mike Tindall, who's married to one of the Queen's grandchildren.
  • Tindall said it's "easier" to communicate that way.

While the royals may still seem highly traditional and even uptight at times, the younger members and their partners — Will and Kate and Harry and Meghan, in particular — are bringing things into the 21st century in a big way.

Not only do they all keep in touch via text, but as it turns out, the squad even has a WhatApp group chat.

That's according to the Queen’s grandson-in-law Mike Tindall — husband of her granddaughter Zara Tindall — who told the Mirror that he and his wife keep up to date with what's going on with their royal cousins through WhatsApp groups.

And with two royal weddings to take place this Spring (Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank) and two royal babies on the way (Kate and Will and Mike and Zara themeslves), there's certainly lots to keep track of.

The 39-year-old ex-rugby player said: "Me, my brother and then a few of Zara’s side like her brother Pete and the cousins are on WhatsApp groups.

"I wouldn’t say we’re cutting edge, but it’s just easier for some reason on WhatsApp," he added.

"The cousins" include Harry, William, Beatrice, and Eugenie. If partners are eligible to join as well, which wasn't clear, that could include Kate and Meghan as well.

"You might do it for a get-together and just stay on the group, and occasionally people will post," Tindall said, adding he's in about "25,000 groups."

"You’re scared to leave because you don’t want to be seen to be rude," he said.

While the cousins may be close and Tindall said he's expecting invites to the royal weddings, they haven't arrived yet.

"We will be going to Harry’s and Eugenie’s weddings — well I think so, we haven’t been invited yet though," he said.

Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Charles have different names when they go to Scotland and Ireland — here's what they are

Prince William Kate St Patrick's Day

  • Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Charles have distinct geographical titles.
  • All three have separate monikers for when they are in Scotland.
  • William and Kate also have a title which is linked to Northern Ireland.
  • Scroll down to find out what they are.

The top members of the British royal family are names we're all familiar with — or so we think.

Though we hear about the likes of William, Kate, Harry, and Charles all the time, they also have alternative monikers most people won't be aware of.

In amongst their crowded collections of titles and honours (Prince Charles's full name is more than three lines long) are some that only really count in certain parts of the UK — and become their main name when they're there.

Senior, married members of the royal family have these regional titles, which at the moment means Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Charles.

Scotland

All three senior royals have different titles in Scotland, which has a completely separate system of nobility to England, and was a distinct country until 1707.

Prince William was given the title Earl of Strathearn when he married Kate in 2011, and in keeping with that, Kate became the Countess of Strathearn, which is their proper title when in Scotland.

Here's a front page of The Daily Telegraph's Scottish edition, which took the chance to use their local titles.

Earl of Strathearn

Alex Salmond, the former first minister of Scotland, also made a point of using those names when it was announced that Kate was pregnant with Princess Charlotte.

Alex Salmon Strathearn

For Prince Charles, his title is Duke of Rothesay. It was the historic title held by the heir to the Scottish throne before the two royal families merged in the early 1600s. His wife, Camilla, is likewise the Duchess of Rothesay.

Here's the Scottish edition of The Times newspaper using the title:

Rothesay The Times

Northern Ireland

William and Kate likewise have a title that only works in Ireland — and only in the six counties that make up Northern Ireland, which remained part of the UK after the rest left.

The Prince is Baron Carrickfergus when in the province, and Kate is Lady Carrickfergus.

Southwest England

The Prince of Wales doesn't have an Irish title, but he is the Duke of Cornwall. When travelling in the southwest of the country (Cornwall is the southwestern tip of the UK) he is often referred to by his ducal title instead of as a prince.

What about Harry and Meghan?

Prince Harry currently doesn't have equivalent geographical titles. But, since William got his extra ones when he married, there is every chance the same thing will happen on the occasion of Harry's wedding.

Royal watchers speculate that Harry will be made Duke of Sussex (with Meghan as Duchess), believing it to be the favourite among several vacant titles. There is scant information about what, if any, Irish or Scottish titles the pair may be granted.

What the Queen's grandchildren call her in private

queen elizabeth II prince harry

While ordinary people might address Queen Elizabeth II as "Her Majesty" along with a bow or a curtsy, things are a little more relaxed behind closed doors.

A Quora user asked the question: "How do the grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth address her in a private location?"

While the responses were varied, our own research indicates the Queen’s grandchildren have some rather affectionate nicknames for her.

William and Harry famously cheered on their grandmother in her unexpected, show-stopping role in the the 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony.

At the sight of their grandmother starring alongside Daniel Craig as James Bond, the pair squealed "Go, Granny!" in unison.

But this reportedly isn’t the only name used by the princes.

High society gossip columnist Richard Kay wrote in the Daily Mail that once after a fall at Buckingham Palace, a young William called out for "Gary."

When the household asked "Who is Gary?" the Queen reportedly responded "I’m Gary" and swooped in to comfort him.

Wills had not yet mastered "Granny," she explained.

Four-year-old great-grandson Prince George also has a rather endearing name for Queen Elizabeth II, as revealed in a 2016 interview aired to mark the monarch’s 90th birthday.

According to The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, George calls her 'Gan Gan.'

This isn't just a cute nickname, according to PopSugar however, rather it marks a long-standing royal tradition. American biographer Kitty Kelley claims that 'Gan Gan' was adopted by Prince Charles, William, and Harry to address their respective great-grandmothers.

This post was inspired by a question on Quora.

storm troopers

  • Princes William and Harry secretly filmed cameo scenes for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" in 2016.
  • But it emerged last year that the scenes had been cut from the film.
  • At over 6 foot, the brothers make abnormally tall stormtroopers.
  • The deleted scene has now emerged on YouTube, and it reportedly features as an outtake on the film's DVD.
  • The royals are understood to appear in the scene with actor Tom Hardy.

At the end of last year, it was revealed that Prince William and Prince Harry's secretly filmed cameos in the latest Star Wars film, "The Last Jedi," had been cut — and it was rumoured to be on account of the royals being too tall.

The brothers, who are apparently huge Star Wars fans, attended the premiere of the film in December 2017.

They had secretly visited Pinewood Studios in April 2016 to shoot the cameos, but it later emerged that the scenes had been cut from the film.

William and Harry, who are 6 foot 3 and 6 foot 1 respectively, would make abnormally tall stormtroopers — according to the Mail Online, they're typically required to be 5 foot 11.

Luckily for dissappointed fans, a deleted scene from the film has emerged on YouTube and is believed to feature stormtrooper Prince William — on the far left in the scene — next to Prince Harry and actor Tom Hardy. The trio are shown in a lift with Finn (John Boyega), Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), and DJ (Benicio Del Toro).

The clip will reportedly feature as an outtake on the film's DVD, which is set to be released on April 9.

In the scene, one of the stormtroopers, believed to be Hardy, leans in to speak to Finn as he recognises him from camp.

Finn asks: "Is there a problem soldier?"

"FN-2187?" the stormtrooper responds. "You don’t remember me?"

Looking nervous, Finn asks: "926, please don't do this."

Later in the scene the stormtrooper jokes: "I know I'm not supposed to initiate contact with officers, but I never took you for captain material. Look at you, captain!" He then slaps Finn's bottom.

An inside look at how Princess Diana went from a kindergarten teacher to an international icon

Princess Diana

• Princess Diana was a teacher before marrying Prince Charles.

• After divorcing Charles, Diana became a world famous advocate for different causes, like better treatment for AIDS and HIV patients.

• Her sons Prince William and Prince Harry remember her as a loving and "informal" mother.

Princess Diana tragically died at the age of 36 over 20 years ago, in 1997.

She was first propelled into the national spotlight at the age of 20, when she wedded Great Britain's Prince Charles at the age of 20.

Their troubled marriage ultimately imploded, turning the couple in tabloid fodder.

However, Diana went on to become an international icon in her own right. Her sophisticated style dictated fashion trends. Her dedication to charitable causes won her admiration and accolades.

And, in the wake of her death in Paris, then-UK Prime Minister Tony Blair famously referred to her as "the people's princess." The mass, global outpouring of grief that her death sparked proved it an apt observation.

Here's a look at the life of Diana, Princess of Wales:

In school, the future princess failed all her O-levels — twice. However, Diana had a sense that she was destined for something important. "I knew that something profound was coming my way," she said in the documentary "Diana: In Her Own Words.""I was just treading water, waiting for it."

Before her marriage, Diana reportedly shared a flat with three roommates and worked as a part-time kindergarten teacher in London’s Pimlico district.
